Psa 124:2–3 (NKJV) – “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us, then they would have swallowed us alive, when their wrath was kindled against us.”
As we stand on the last day of the year, this psalm invites us to reflect honestly on our journey. David acknowledges that survival was not by skill, strength, or strategy—it was the Lord’s intervention. There were moments when opposition was real, pressure was intense, and escape seemed impossible. Yet we are still standing, not because the threats were small, but because God was present.
Scripture repeatedly reminds us that God’s people endure because God stands with them. Israel crossed the Red Sea not by might, but by divine help (Exod. 14:13–14). The psalmist declares that though enemies encamped around him, his confidence remained in the Lord (Ps. 27:1–3). Paul echoes this truth, affirming that God delivers us from dangers seen and unseen (2 Cor. 1:10). What could have swallowed us did not—because God stepped in.
Ending the year with this confession reshapes our gratitude. We do not merely celebrate achievements; we acknowledge preservation. As we cross into a new year, let this testimony anchor our faith: if God kept us through what tried to consume us, He will surely carry us into what lies ahead. Our future rests in the same faithful hands that guarded our past.
