And he said to the king of Israel, &#8220;Strike the ground&#8221;; so he struck three times, and stopped.2Ki 13:19 And the man of God was angry with him, and said, &#8220;You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck Syria till you had destroyed it. But now you will strike Syria only three times.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Elisha presented a symbolic oracle to Joash the king. He designated the arrows as symbols of defeat against Syria. Then Elisha ordered the king to implement the defeat symbolically by striking the ground. Joash struck the ground three times only. <\/p>\n<p>Elisha rebuked the king for not striking the ground enough times . Elisha  said &#8221; you should have struck five or six times; then  you will have struck Syria till you have destroyed it &#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes this is what we do.  We give up  when breakthrough is almost knocking at our doors. We should be persistent in whatever we do and not allow  the enemy to take away  our zeal.  Let us &#8221; strike the ground&#8221; enough times.
