1Sa 25:2 \u00b6 And there was a man in Maon, whose possessions were in Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.
\n:3 Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb.<\/p>\n
Nabal signifies \u2018a fool\u2019 while Abigail signifies \u2018the joy of her father\u2019. Nabal was very rich which would make him look great in the eyes of the world. Despite his status he seems to be lacking in character. <\/p>\n
David made a humble request of victuals for his servants and himself but it was met with arrogance and scorn from Nabal. This angered David who organized his troupe for a revenge mission. Were it not for Abigail it would have turned into a bloody affair. <\/p>\n
In the modern day we have paid great eminence to fame and opulence at the expense of character. Many are being brought down by their flawed moral fiber which is disintegrating in our society. It is better to build on our character which is pivotal in sustaining us even as we climb the ladder of success. <\/p>\n
Greatness need to be sustained by premium character.
\nWe need divine wisdom in all our operations to live a peaceable and quite life. This is what Abigail possessed and it quenched the fury of David and his men. By wisdom she saved her household and her own life which was at stake. <\/p>\n
Because of Nabal\u2019s folly The Lord smote him and he died. May we embrace wisdom which will give flavor to our character and yield longevity. <\/p>\n
