And she bound the scarlet cord in the window.<\/p>\n<p>Rahab was a Canaanite harlot in Jericho. She hid the spies that had been sent by Joshua and later helped them escape over the walls. Before they left, they  made an agreement with her  that they would protect her and her household on condition that she would tie a scarlet in the window.<\/p>\n<p>This is exactly what she did. This was to be a mark that distinguished Rahab&#8217;s  house from other houses. Her  kindred  were to remain in her house and they were not to mingle with their neighbors. It&#8217;s red color made it conspicuous and it was thus a sign and pledge of safety to Rahab&#8217;s  house.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s  what happened during the night of Exodus. The bloody lintels distinguished the houses of the Israelites from those of the Egyptians. And to us today, the blood of Jesus is the distinguishing mark.
