Jer 38:9 “My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon, and he is likely to die from hunger in the place where he is. For there is no more bread in the city.”
\nJer 38:10 Then the king commanded Ebed-Melech the Ethiopian, saying, “Take from here thirty men with you, and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon before he dies.”<\/p>\n
Ebed- Melek was from Ethiopia who served in the palace of king Zedekiah during the days of Jeremiah the Prophet. The King, who was by then under heavy influence of his wicked and corrupt officials had imprisoned Jeremiah in a cistern filled with mud just because they hated his prophecy. Jeremiah was in real danger of death.<\/p>\n
Ebed-Melek decided not just sit there and wait for the prophet’s demise. He courageously went on a dangerous mission to the king to intercede for Jeremiah’s life. Despite the presence of the powerful men behind the plot, he petitioned the king who responded favourably to his request. The king gave Ebed- Melek permission to release Jeremiah from the cistern. Today, people rarely talk about him but he remains a hero of faith.<\/p>\n
Like Ebed – Melek , people may not know that you exist. They may not even be aware of your silent but very sacrificial and critical ministry in the body of Christ. When they read the names of those to be awarded and recognized, your name very often goes missing. But in the heavenly records, your name is in the top of the list! Continue doing the good work!<\/p>\n
