1Ki 19:4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said, “It is enough! Now, LORD, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!”1Ki 19:5 Then as he lay and slept under a broom tree, suddenly an angel touched him, and said to him, “Arise and eat.”<\/p>\n
Burnout is a state of emotional, physical and mental exhaustion. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained and unable to meet constant demands.<\/p>\n
Elijah had achieved all that a man\/ woman of God would have desired. His three and a half weather forecast had been actualized . For the three and a half years, the Lord had miraculously provided for him. He had proved beyond any reasonable doubt that Yahweh was God . He prayed for rain and indeed rain came and Yahweh had used him to bring idolatry to an end turn the hearts of the Israelites back to God.<\/p>\n
Despite all these, the Man of God suffered serious burnout that needed divine intervention. Instead of handling Jezebel , he ran away and prayed that he may be promoted to glory. But God knew exactly what he needed; a good rest ( away from the crowd – under a broom tree) , a time to recharge ( eat and drink both physically & spiritually), and a time to get fresh divine instructions ( Go to Horeb – The mountain of God)<\/p>\n
1 Kings 19:8 So he arose, and ate and drank; and he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights as far as Horeb, the mountain of God<\/p>\n
