2 Ch34:14 (KJV) And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found a book of the law of the LORD given by Moses.
\nhas2Ch 34:18 Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it before the king. 2Ch 34:19 Now it happened, when the king heard the words of the Law, that he tore his clothes.<\/p>\n
King Josiah started reigning at a tender age of eight years. He immediately purposed to reform and walk in the footsteps of his ancestor David against a backdrop of his father Amon and grandfather Manasseh who had done evil in the eyes of the Lord . This had precipitated the anger of the Lord on Israelites. But Josiah became one of the greatest king because he acted with complete obedience to God’s word.<\/p>\n
When the book of the law was found and read to him, King Josiah was repentant and tore his clothes . That act was enough to melt the heart of God . In addition Josiah renewed the covenant to follow the Lord and keep his commands. He also removed all the detestable idols from Israel. This was a generation that had not read the word of God for a while. But when it was discovered, it was read and the results were visible.<\/p>\n
How long has that Bible been sitting there ? The very practice of reading( the Bible ) will have a purifying effect upon your mind and heart. Let nothing take the place of this daily exercise ( Billy Graham). Like Josiah , when the Book of the law resurfaces, we need to humble ourselves , repent our sins and renew our covenant with the Lord. We must purpose to find it, read it and meditate on it daily.<\/p>\n
