1Pe 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 1Pe 2:10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.<\/p>\n
Our text describes who the chosen people of God are. Joh 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name : The true children of God come to being through faith in Jesus Christ and not through physical birth or ethnic descent. This opened the way for gentiles to become God’s children.<\/p>\n
We are no longer aliens but a people belonging to God. Believers are the ” new and true Israel ” . They are the chosen people ( Isa 43:20), a royal priesthood and a holy nation ( Exo 19:5,6) , a people belonging to God ( Tit 2:14). ( Applied New Testament Commentary, Thomas Hale). God has called us out of darkness and brought us to his wonderful light.<\/p>\n
This is a special reminder of who we are in Christ. That we were once the unbelieving gentiles and not God’s people. But now we are far much better off; we have received God’s mercy and we have become sons and daughters of the living God.<\/p>\n
