Luk 10:36 “So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?”
Luk 10:37 And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”
It is rightly said that it is not he who professes most kindness that really loves you most, but he who will deny himself that he may do us good in times of want. The Priest and the Levite did not attend to the needs of the man who fell in hands of robbers ,injuring him critically and leaving him half dead. It is only the despised Samaritan who came to his rescue.
Christian friends, real charity is an active operative thing. It consist not only in good words given to the distressed, nor in compassionate beholding of them, nor in a pitiful mourning over them, but in positive acts of kindness towards them. Real love will lead us to deny ourselves. ( William Burkitt’s notes on the New Testament)
This is what makes the Samaritan to stand out. He denied himself for the sake of the injured man. Jesus words are still relevant today ; ” Go and do likewise ”
