Jdg.20.34–35 “And the children of Benjamin did not know that disaster was upon them… The LORD defeated Benjamin before Israel…” (NKJV)
Judges 20 unfolds during a painful civil conflict. Israel seeks justice, goes into battle twice, and is twice defeated—even after praying. Yet they refuse to quit. On the third day, after renewed worship and dependence on God, victory comes. The story shows that perseverance, especially in moments of confusion and setback, often becomes the pathway through which God’s purposes are finally revealed.
Scripture repeatedly affirms this truth. The persistent widow received justice because she would not give up (Luke 18.1–8). Paul encourages believers not to grow weary, for “in due season we shall reap” (Gal.6.9). Jesus Himself endured the cross “for the joy set before Him” (Heb.12.2), proving that God’s greatest victories often come through steadfast endurance. Success in God’s kingdom is rarely instant—it is born from continued faithfulness.
Judges 20 reminds us that perseverance invites divine breakthrough. Israel’s third attempt wasn’t chance; it was persistence meeting God’s timing. Success responds to those who refuse to quit—those who return to prayer, keep believing, and stand firm even after defeat. The God who turned Israel’s sorrow into triumph still honors unwavering faith today.
