Luk 15:20 “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.
This is a beautiful description of our father’s excess love. Even from a distance, he was able to recognise his son. He saw him clad in rags, poor and emaciated and the feelings of a father prompted him to go and embrace him. He was moved with compassion and love.
As opposed to the manner in which the son came, the old man moved with speed. The son came walking; but the father ran. The love and joy of the old man were so great that he hastened to meet him and welcome him to his home
He threw his arms around his neck and embraced him. What! In all his filth? Yes. In all his haggard shattered wretchedness? Yes. He did not even wait for the confession the son had resolved to make.
The world was in ruin and exposed to the wrath of God. All men were in a hopeless condition. God gave his son. Man had no claim in him; it was a gift…. an undeserved gift. It pleased God to give his son into the hands of men to die in their stead.
1Jo 3:1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!
