2Sa 9:7 So David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.”
It was a great while after David accession to kingship that he enquired of the remains of the ruined house of Saul. He sought an opportunity to do good on account of his friendship with Jonathan, Saul’s son.
Upon inquiry, David was told of Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s son who was crippled in both feet and was residing at the house of Makir son of Ammiel at Lo Debar. Makir must have been a very generous and compassionate man having taken care of a man “who was as good as dead dog”.( 2Sa 9:8)
With convenient speed, David had Mephibosheth brought to Jerusalem. He received him with all the kindness that could be. David restored to him all the land that belonged to Saul. That was not all, he made him a constant guest at his table, where he will not only be comfortably fed, but have company and attendance suitable for him.
Jehovah is not only restoring what we might have lost, but He is extending greater kindness than that shown to Mephibosheth. Like Mephibosheth, you may have resigned to fate but God is saying that he is not yet through with you; he is the master restorer!
