Isaiah 62:4 No longer will they call you Deserted, or name your land Desolate. But you will be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for the Lord will take delight in you, and your land will be married.
Israel was a God chosen nation. Regularly, the Israelites angered God and He would end up punishing them. Out of His love for His people, God would restore them back to Himself.
In this particular context, Israel’s name’s are changed from ones that indicated her loneliness ( forsaken and desolate) to those that shows intimate relationship (“my delight is in her” and”married”). This is a metaphor of God as a husband and His Bride that communicates intimacy. ( Mathew Henry commentary)
We may feel forsaken and desolate at times because of the various challenges we may be going through. God assures us as His bride (church) of his unfailing love. He says, He will never leave nor forsake us.
No matter the trials and difficulties, He assures us of His intimate relationship. Let us cheer up brethren, for we are being called by a new name, a pleasant name, such as we have never been called before. We are no longer forsaken.
