Luk 18:3-5 “Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Avenge me of my adversary.’ “And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, ‘yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’ ”
Jesus gave the parable of a widow who appealed to an unjust judge for justice. It is clear that the judge did not fear God nor cared about man. This man was evil and he treated all those who went to him without justice or mercy.
In the Jewish culture , as it is our norm today , widows and orphans are classified as the most vulnerable people in the society. This widow’s only hope was that her persistent plea of Justice would be granted. Though the judge was unprincipled and unwilling to grant her justice, he eventually caved in and granted her.
The challenge with many believers is that we give up too easily and resign to fate . We forget that the darkest hour is the one near dawn. Afflictions are signs for great blessings that will come our way if we overcome. We have to persist in the place of prayer and believe we have already received what we have been trusting God for. ” Men ought always to pray and not lose heart”. ( Luk 18:1)
