Acts 17:22-23 For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription:” TO THE UNKNOWN GOD “. Now what you worship as something unknown ,I am going to proclaim to you.
While Paul was waiting for Silas and Timothy in Athens, he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols. So he reasoned with both Jews and Godfearing Greeks, as well as those who happened to be there. People of Athens were very religious and in their quest to know God they worshipped objects and others worshipped that which they didn’t know and labelled their altar ” TO AN UNKNOWN GOD ” Paul took the opportunity to make the unknown God known to them.
Jehovah, Yahweh, the I AM WHO I AM ,“The one who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth . He gives everyone life and breath and everything else. He doesn’t live in hiding as some presume, but has made Himself known to us through His son Jesus Christ.
He is not a God of gold ,silver or wood carving . Neither is He a God of a certain race, religion or traditional affiliation .For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many “gods” and many lords”), yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
