Mat 7:6 โDonโt waste what is holy on people who are unholy. Donโt throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.
Pigs were regarded as unclean animals according to God’s law. (Deu 14:8) Anyone who came into contact with unclean animal became “ceremonially unclean”. He was not allowed to go to the temple to worship until the uncleanness was removed. If you gave the Pearl to the pigs, they would spit out the Pearl and tramp on them and then turn and attack those who gave them.
It’s an exercise in futility when we try to teach holy concepts to people who don’t want to listen and will only tear apart what we say. These are hard hearted unbelievers who deliberately oppose God . This doesn’t mean we abscond our Christian duty of reaching to the lost with the Word of God. It means that we should be wise and discerning in what we teach and to whom so we will not be wasting our time.
In the social setting, we have a group of people who will never appreciate valuable things at their disposal. Thus, we should not spend our precious resources where they will be undervalued or trampled upon. Before we commit ourselves to invest in certain people, we should assess what they value and the pearl we want to invest in them. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs!
