Jos 15:13 Now to Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a portion among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, namely, Kirjath Arba, which is Hebron (Arba was the father of Anak).
Jos 15:14 Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak from there: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.
The Anakites were a formidable race of giants, warlike people who occupied the lands of southern Israel near Hebron. According to the book of Numbers, Anak was the forefather of the Anakim. Ten out of the twelve spies described them as ” great and tall”. When they saw them , they were seized with fear and saw themselves as grasshoppers in their sight.
But when Caleb was given Hebron, he confronted them. By God’s divine help, he drove out the three sons of Anak from there: Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai. He did not run away from them. If he was going to occupy Hebron, he had to confront them. He expelled them from the hill country – he drove them out of the Hebron completely.
Christian friend, you cannot conquer what you cannot confront. When you run away from your giants, you are running away from your own destiny. The one who is in us cannot be compared in stature to the one you are confronting. 2Co 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,2Co 10:5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
