Psa 2:1 Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? Psa 2:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying,Psa 2:3 “Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.”Psa 2:4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The LORD shall hold them in derision.
It has been supposed that David composed this Psalm after he captured Jerusalem from Jebusites and made it the head of his kingdom. The Philistines hearing of this encamped in the valley of Rephaim. The other warlike , in the neighborhood united their armies to that of the Philistine in order to destroy David before he strengthened himself in the kingdom. ( Adam Clarke’s commentary).
As they conspired on how they would bring down David, as they planned for the war, Yahweh, He who sitteth in the heavens was not only watching them but at the same time laughing at them. God knew that whatever they were planning against his anointed one was not going to succeed. He looked at all their efforts and laughed at them.
No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me, declares the Lord ( Isa 54:17). When the wicked meet to scheme for our down fall, the one enthroned in heavens laughs at them. He ensures that none of their schemes prevail!
