2 Kings 5:11-12
But Naaman went away angry and said, “I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy. Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Couldn’t I wash in them and be cleansed?” So he turned and went off in a rage.
Naaman, an army commander, is leprous. With a pre determined mindset ,he sets out to Israel in search of cure. But Elisha fails to meet Naaman’s expectations by ordering him to go for a swimming and diving expedition in heavily polluted River Jordan. This was contrary to his anticipation perhaps of demon rebuking and deliverance session.
After long convincing session from his juniors ,Naaman decides to give a try to Elisha’s prescription. He went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times. His flesh was restored and became clean like that of a little boy!
At times being stuck in certain ways of doing things may be a great hindrance towards receiving great results. This has really impaired Gods willingness and power to provide solution to a many leprous states in life. In His ministry ,Jesus never used one single way of performing miracles ,but a combination of
– applying mud on eyes, take up your mat and walk ,your sins are forgiven, go and never sin again amongst others. All these produced great results.
Even today, variety of formulas still exist in Gods operational calendar but our small unbelieving mind may fail to fathom. As chemistry put it using Hess’s Law that ” regardless of the multiple stages or steps of a reaction, the total enthalpy change for the reaction is the sum of all changes “. Don’t limit God to a single formula that you are well conversant with.
