Luke 2:21-22
On the eighth day, when the time came to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived. When the time came for the rites of purification required by the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord
Rites of passage, formal or informal are rituals, events, or experiences that mark or constitute an important milestone in a person’s life. They are the markers of life, the road signs of life to help us find our place and our time in the cycle of life, to help establish or formulate our identity and all the different places and experiences of our life. Through such, an individual is ushered into and out of groups or statuses of critical importance.
Jesus’ parents didn’t operate in isolation. They took Jesus to the temple after circumcision and dedicated him to the Lord. They truly understood that the one in charge of his conception was to carry him into fulfilling his destiny and purpose of saving mankind.
The young generation needs the same mentorship of disconnecting from captivity of hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ . (Col 2:8) Some of which have been overtaken by events and holds no benefits to the doer.
God holds the future of every soul and life through faith in Jesus Christ. It’s in him that true mentorship and rite of passage can guarantee change of behaviors and morals. In such training, assurance of never to depart from the same is given . Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. Prov 22:6
