1Ti 4:12 Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
The term young/ youth according to Roman and Greek culture could refer to a person up to forty years old. Possibly, some people were picking up on Timothy’s age to try and discredit his teachings. Paul being Timothy’s surrogate parent, wrote to his spiritual son to cheer him on. He knew that he needed encouragement and support.
There are five areas in which Timothy had to set a good example: In speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. Timothy was to act with all gravity and with decorum in regard to the five thematic areas. And because it is natural for the flock to follow the shepherd, soon , all of them would imitate him.
God has assigned each of us a sphere of influence. This could be but not limited to your work place , family, ministry, estate etc. Be a good example in matters to do with diligence, integrity and the fear of the Lord. As a leader, set a good example in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
