Isa 32:10 In a year and some days you will be troubled, you complacent women; for the vintage will fail, the gathering will not come. Isa 32:11 Tremble, you women who are at ease; be troubled, you complacent ones; strip yourselves, make yourselves bare, and gird sackcloth on your waists.
Webster defines complacency ” as a feeling of being satisfied with how things are and not wanting to try to make them better : Self satisfaction especially when accompanied by unawareness of actual dangers or deficiencies.
Prophet Isaiah warned the people of his time on the consequences of complacency. It appears that the security of these women was in the abundant produce of the land. They were showing pride in human resources rather than being strong in the Lord. Little did they know that wine and crop production would fail. Self sufficiency and complacency would lead to a season of great mourning and regret.
Complacency is a blight that saps energy, dulls attitudes, and causes a drain on the brain . The first symptom is satisfaction with things as they are. The second is rejection of things as they might be . ” Good enough ” becomes today’s watch word and tomorrow’s standard . Complacency makes people fear the unknown, mistrust the untried, and abhor the new . Like water, complacent people follow the easiest course – downhill . They draw false strength by looking back ” (anonymous)
Complacency causes us to be satisfied with the status quo which makes us stagnate. We become comfortable in our faith and we start relying on our past victories. No matter what God has done through you, no matter what amazing ministry you have been part of, no matter what your current achievements are, you must start looking a head to the next battle God wants you to win.
