Joh 8:4,10-11 They said, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. When Jesus straightened up and saw no one except the woman, he said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?”
She said, “No one, Lord”. And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and sin no more”. ”
The woman’s accusers are standing before Jesus, each with a stone, and are acting within the law “And the man who commits adultery with another man’s wife, both shall surely be put to death.” (Lev 20:10). Only that they couldn’t account for the man.
Jesus’ response did not excuse her sin, nor did it negate the law. He did not prevent anyone from throwing a stone. Jesus instead gave a true picture of all of us.
She was guilty, caught in the act….had a bad reputation. There was no hiding her failure….too many witnesses. There was no defense and she knew there was a penalty. All sins have a price; “The wages of sin is DEATH…Rom 6:23″
But Jesus knew that none of us was without sin ; Nobody but Him. No one else can stand up to the measure of His perfection. He didn’t cast a stone. Sure He was justified to, but He wanted something else. He sought transformation. (Carl willis)
All of us have been caught red handed in different acts of sin, ” the big ones and the small ones”.We are therefore candidates for stoning. But when our accuser presents us before the judge, we are left with Him alone. *A repentant heart is all he needs.Just as with the woman, Jesus extends to us mercy and grace ”
and leaves us with simple instructions, “Go and sin no more.” All saints are pardoned sinners ,while sinners are saints in waiting. Jesus is a certified fidelity restorer. He alone can forgive all our sins and throw them in the sea of forgetfulness.
