Luke 15:20 “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.
When the younger son defiantly left home, he had no intention of coming back. It took extreme poverty and hunger to prompt him to come back to his senses and realize that in spite of all he had done, the correct cause of action was to return and become one of his father’s hired servant ( Holman Study Bible – NKJV)
The son was yet a great way off when his Father saw him. His eyes full of mercy were quick to locate him before any other family member was aware of his presence. This denotes that he was looking forward for his return. He expressed his kindness before the son expressed his repentance. He literary run to meet him with arms outstretched ; arms of mercy and love. Though guilty and deserving to be beaten, though dirty and newly come from feeding swine, yet he took him in his arms and laid him in his bosom ( Matthew Henry’s commentary of the whole Bible)
Our heavenly father never gives up on us. Despite our weaknesses, shortcomings and many mistakes, he will always be there for us. He will not write us off but will always be there with his arms stretched out to receive us back. He will keep on calling ,looking and searching for us until you are joyfully reunited back to him. No matter what we have done, no matter where we go, no matter how we fall, he will pick us up again.
