Rut 4:16 Then Naomi took the child and laid him on her bosom, and became a nurse to him.
Rut 4:17 Also the neighbor women gave him a name, saying, “There is a son born to Naomi.” And they called his name Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David.
This is a happy ending for a woman who had tasted the mercilessness of life. When she left Bethlehem for Moab in search for bread, her life was marked with with one calamity after another. Naomi’s husband died and she was left with her two sons; Mahlon and Chilion. They took wives of the women of Moab; Ruth and Orpar. After about ten years, both Mahlon and Chillon died childless.
For Naomi, it seemed as if the hand of the Lord was against her and her fate was already sealed. Despite being persuaded to remain behind, Ruth, bound her self to go with Naomi and lodge with her. As a matter of fact, she would even die and be hurried where Naomi was- “the greatest possible commitment in the ancient world”. Through divine intervention, Ruth got married to Boaz, conceived and bore a son.
The child would be a comfort to Naomi in her old age ( would sustain her grey hair). He would be her family redeemer who would provide for her needs in her declining years(Ruth 4:14,15). Though no one would bring back her husband and sons, now she had a daughter in law and a grandson named Obed. Obed became the father of Jesse , the father of David. Don’t allow your past to define you.Your current condition is not your conclusion. The best days of your life are yet to be revealed!
