Isaiah 62:2-4 The nations will see your vindication, and all kings your glory; you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will bestow. 3 You will be a crown of splendor in the Lord’s hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God. *4 No longer will they call you Deserted, or name your land Desolate. But you will be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for the Lord will take delight in you, and your land will be married.
Israel was a God chosen nation to be a witness to the world and bring them to Yahweh. However, at this point in time, they felt they had been forsaken by God and wondered if he would ever love them again. But out of His love for His people, God spoke to them and promised to restore them back to Himself.
In this particular context, Israel’s name’s are changed from ones that indicated her loneliness ( forsaken and desolate) to those that shows intimate relationship (“my delight is in her” and”married”). This is a metaphor of God as a husband and His Bride that communicates intimacy. ( Mathew Henry commentary)
God assures us, as His bride (church) of his unfailing love. Let us cheer up brethren, for we are being called by a new name, a pleasant name, such as we have never been called before. We are no longer forsaken. We are a crown of splendor in the Lord’s hand, a royal diadem in the hands of our God. No longer will they call you deserted. He is our ever present help in the time of trouble.
