Exo 12:13 ‘Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
God instructed the Israelites to put the blood of a lamb on their doorposts so that he would pass over their houses during the plague upon Egypt. The blood applied on the door posts meant that those in the house would be spared. It was a sign to the destroying Angel that the house was under the protection of God.
It is through the blood of Christ, typified by the blood of paschal lamb, that God pardons men and saves them from destruction. This event foreshadows the sacrifice of Jesus, whose blood is the ultimate atonement for sin. When we are covered by His blood, we are under the protection of God.
Just as the blood of the Passover lamb protected the Israelites from death, so too does the blood of Jesus protect believers from God’s judgment and provides a path to eternal life.
