Mat 15:17 “Do you still not understand that whatever goes in the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated?”
The stomach is an incredible organ, designed to break down food and extract nutrients while eliminating waste. This mirrors how we should approach life—digesting and internalizing what is beneficial while discarding what is harmful. The stomach serves as a reservoir—it receives food, processes it, and removes waste. Spiritually, this symbolizes how we should handle the information, influences, and experiences we take in.
Just as the stomach filters out toxins and keeps what nourishes the body, we must learn to filter out negative influences while retaining and spreading what is good. Not everything we consume is good for us. Just as the body can suffer from unhealthy food, the soul suffers from negative influences. What we take in shapes our hearts. If we allow negative thoughts, false teachings, or ungodly influences, they will affect our actions. We must be intentional about what we consume—spiritually, mentally, and emotionally.
The people, media, and conversations we engage in can either build us up or tear us down. When we meditate on God’s Word and embrace good influences, we become vessels of blessing to others. When we receive the right spiritual nourishment, we become a source of life to others. Just as we are mindful of what we eat for our physical health, we must be even more vigilant about what we take in spiritually.
