2 Tim 1:5
“I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.”
This is part of Apostle Paul’s heartfelt exhortation to Timothy, a young man he had mentored in the faith. Paul recognized the genuine and unwavering faith in Timothy and he attributed it to the spiritual legacy of his family—specifically, his mother Eunice and grandmother Lois.
Timothy was blessed to grow up in a home where faith was not just taught but lived out daily. His mother and grandmother, both Jewish women who had come to believe in Christ, were instrumental in shaping his spiritual foundation. From a young age, Timothy was nurtured in the Scriptures, and that early exposure had a lasting impact on his life and ministry.
In a time when many young men were indifferent or constrained by the rigidity of the Jewish law, Timothy stood out. His passion for Christ and commitment to the gospel were rare and admirable, and it was clear that much of it had been cultivated by the godly influence of the women who raised him.
Mothers play a profound role in shaping the direction of a child’s life. Children learn best by example—they imitate what they see more than what they hear. In Timothy’s case, he witnessed sincere faith in action: consistent prayer, love, kindness, hospitality, and a devotion to God’s Word. These weren’t just teachings—they were a lifestyle modeled by the women closest to him.
On this Mother’s Day, we are reminded of the power of example. Let us commit to instilling godly values in our children and in the young people around us—not just through words, but through daily living. Let them see us reading Scripture, praying, showing kindness, serving others, and walking in love. As they observe, they will slowly adopt these same habits, forming a strong spiritual character that can withstand the challenges of a shifting world.May your faith leave a legacy.
