Psalm 106:31 (NIV) β βThis was credited to him as righteousness for endless generations to come.β
Imagine checking your balance and seeing this divine message: βCredited with righteousness.β Thatβs what happened with Phinehas. His act of zeal wasnβt self-righteousnessβit reflected Godβs heart. Scripture repeats this pattern: βAbraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousnessβ (Rom 4:3, NIV). Righteousness is not earned; itβs credited by faith.
This is the great exchangeβour sin for Christβs righteousness. As Luther wrote, βOur sins are no longer ours but Christβs, and His righteousness is no longer His but ours.β βGod made him who had no sin to be sin for usβ¦β (2 Cor 5:21, NIV). At the cross, our debt was cleared, and we received heavenβs creditβcompletely unearned, fully ours.
You donβt have to strive to earn it. βSince we have been justified through faith, we have peace with Godβ¦β (Rom 5:1, NIV). Your spiritual account is fullβnot with your works, but with Christβs. Walk in that confidence. You are justified, credited, and coveredβfor eternity.
