1 Sam. 16:7
βThe Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.β
God often hides extraordinary gifts in ordinary or unattractive wrapping. David looked like a forgotten shepherd, Joseph wore prison chains, Moses had a stammer, and Jesus lay in a manger. None looked like greatness, yet each carried divine purpose. The ugliest wrapping does not diminish the value of the giftβit often protects it until Godβs appointed moment.
The danger of judging by appearance is missing what God is doing. David seemed too small, the loaves too little, and the Jordan too dirty. Many blessings arrive in forms that donβt match our expectationsβhard seasons, uncomfortable assignments, or painful experiences. Yet inside them God hides growth, direction, and unexpected breakthrough.
Wisdom looks past the wrapping to discern the gift. What appears as setback may be preparation; what looks like rejection may be redirection; what feels like loss may be hidden promotion. The cross itself was the ugliest wrapping, yet inside was salvation. Trust God beyond appearancesβsome gifts reveal their beauty only after the paper is torn.
