Gen 50:15 When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “Perhaps Joseph will hate us and actually repay us for all the evil which we did to him.
When Jacob life was drawing to an end, he called his sons to foretell them what would happen to them. To each son a word was given of what would become of them. Joseph is distinct in the word he receives from the father. He is placed above all.(Gen 49:22-26) The death of his father brought new fears to his brethren as they remembered the brutality they did to him.
Reflecting on Joseph’s journey, it is noticeable that he was of a different kind. The sibling rivalry prevailing in the family ought to have engraved bitterness to the core of his heart. Betrayal from those who are close to us is more painful and mostly leaves a wound that does not heal. Joseph chose a different path that when he was in a position to revenge , love triumphed. His focus was on the Big Picture – His mission to save lives in Egypt.
The journey process did not make him bitter but a better brother who would embrace his brethren without judging them by their previous evil deeds. This is a high form of maturity. May we ascend high in maturity levels and transcend rivalries that were meant to bring us down. We need to focus on the beautiful ending of the story other than the one act that offended us. The beautiful ending is that God has turned it for good!
