And when they had left, suddenly the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Get up, take the young child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word. For Herod will look for the young child to destroy him”.
Matthew 2:13
The angel’s message to Joseph was not just a command; it was a provision for protection. Herod’s intention to destroy the young child, Jesus, represented the presence of evil in the world.God made a way of escape and protection for His Son. In the midst of dangers and threats – spiritual, emotional, and physical, God will always provide an escape route.
The phrase “stay there until I bring you word” emphasizes waiting on God’s timing. Joseph was not given a timeline. He had to trust that God would speak again when the time was right. Patience is a difficult but essential part of the Christian walk. Often, we are eager to move forward, make decisions, or see outcomes. But there are times when God instructs us to wait, to “stay there” until He provides further direction. Joseph’s ability to hear and respond to the angel’s message was due to his spiritual sensitivity. In a world filled with distractions, it is crucial to cultivate a quiet spirit that can discern God’s still, small voice.
“Stay there until I bring you word” is a powerful reminder that God is in control, even when circumstances are uncertain and the future seems unclear. As we navigate our own journeys, may we learn to listen for God’s direction, trust in His timing, and obey His commands, knowing that He is guiding us according to His perfect will.
