Psalm 34:18 (KJV)
βThe Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.β
When a nation weeps, Heaven listens. When a people mourn together, God bends close to heal their collective heart. Mourning is not a mark of weaknessβit is the evidence of love and unity. We grieve not because we have lost everything, but because someone meant everything to us.
From Israelβs lament in exile to Davidβs tears for Jonathan, Scripture reminds us that even collective sorrow can become sacred soil for new strength. God has not forsaken this landβHe is walking with it through the valley. He turns mourning into meaning, pain into purpose, and ashes into awakening. The same God who saw Israel through her midnight will see this nation through its moment of loss.
As Nelson Mandela once said, βOur deepest fear is not that we are inadequate; our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.β Grief reminds us of our shared humanity, but hope calls us to rebuild together. A nation united in tears can become a nation united in triumphβfor resurrection always follows the cross.
